Biblical Prosperity in Perspective 26

The Three Tenses of Faith for Biblical Prosperity

by Pastor John Hamel

We are going to study the three tenses of faith for Biblical prosperity in this lesson.  Faith does indeed have three tenses, past, present and future.  When we get a handle on all three, we are in better position to receive.

The Past Tense of Faith for Biblical Prosperity

“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:  That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” (Galatians 3:13,14)

The Bible says that Jesus has borne the curse of sin on our behalf.  One of the curses for sin is poverty, lack and debt.

“But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee: … Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store.  Cursed shall be the … fruit of thy land, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. … The Lord shall [allow] cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me.” (Deuteronomy 28:15-20)

If you are a Born Again child of God and you are willing to pay tithes and offerings, the curse of poverty, which Jesus has borne for you, will not be allowed to overtake you.  Jesus “hath” (past tense) borne the curse of poverty for you.

Therefore, we see that faith for Biblical prosperity has a past tense.  We must release faith in what Christ “hath” done.  Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of poverty.  This must become established in your thinking.  Determine in your heart today that “Christ has (past tense) borne the curse of poverty for me.  I need not bear it any longer.”

The Present Tense of Faith for Biblical Prosperity

Jesus had something to say about the present tense of faith for everything, including Biblical prosperity in perspective.

“Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” (Mark 11:24)

Notice that Jesus said, “…when ye pray, BELIEVE that ye receive …”.  That is present tense.  Jesus is emphasizing the importance of believing that you receive at the time of your prayer.

The Apostle John also said something very interesting about believing you receive at the time of your prayer.

“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:  And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have (present tense) the petitions that we desired of him.” (1John 5:14,15)

You can have confidence that God hears you when you pray, when you pray according to His will.  To pray according to God’s will is simply to pray according to God’s Word. (John 15:7)  If what you are asking God for is promised in the Bible, then you can know that He is listening to you when you ask Him for it.

Certainly by now you are persuaded that Biblical prosperity in perspective is indeed the will of God for you.  We have seen this fact time and time again from the Bible throughout this series.

Because you know now that God’s will for you is Biblical prosperity in perspective, you know that God hears you when you ask Him for it.

The Apostle John said if you know that He hears you, then you can know that you “have” (present tense) the petitions you desire of Him.  It’s yours now.  It is an established fact in the mind of God that He has provided Biblical prosperity in perspective for you.

Therefore, it should be an established fact in your mind that He has provided Biblical prosperity in perspective for you.  Jesus said that you are to believe that Biblical prosperity, as revealed in God’s Word, is yours when you pray.  He said that you are to believe that it belongs to you now, present tense, and that it will ultimately manifest.

Barbara once ordered some aviation videos for my birthday.  She told me what she had done for me.  I took her at her word.  I began to release expectation in what she had promised me.  She had ordered the videos and paid for them.  Therefore, those videos were mine now.  Barbara had the confirmation number to prove it.  Each day I went to the Post Office expecting them to be in my box.  I was filled with expectation for them.  They were mine now, bought and paid in full, and were soon to appear.  I was excited.

Why should I not have as much faith in my Father as I do in my wife?  I have His promise in His Word that Biblical prosperity is His gift to me.  I have the confirming promises in His Word proving that Jesus purchased it for me with His Blood.

I am persuaded that His will for me is Biblical prosperity in perspective and my persuasion is the under girding foundation of my joyful expectation.  I am persuaded inwardly that the prosperity, which is my present Covenant promise, will indeed continue to manifest outwardly.  I am persuaded that it is mine now.  You must be persuaded that it is yours now.

A farmer plants seed and expects a harvest.  He knows because he planted the seed that the harvest is his.  It is a done deal.  He is so convinced that the harvest is his now that he goes out and buys equipment based upon it.

A woman conceives a child and she’s said to be “expecting.”  She is expecting that the baby she is carrying on the inside is about to make an appearance on the outside.  Although the baby has not manifested outwardly, she is still considered to be a Mother, now.

The farmer stays patient and composed knowing that the harvest is his.  The mother stays patient and composed knowing that the child is hers.  I stayed patient and composed knowing that the videos were mine.  I did not go to the Post Office daily and find no videotapes in my box only to start accusing Barbara of a lack of integrity, dishonesty and untrustworthiness.  I did not tell Barbara, “Your word’s no good.”  I didn’t start complaining, “I must have done something wrong.”  “Maybe it’s not your will for me to have those videos.”

I stayed patient and composed knowing that those videos were mine.  Every day that passed, I knew I was getting closer to the manifestation of my aviation videos.

Faith has a present tense.  Biblical prosperity is yours right now.  Be patient.  Stay composed.  Do not throw fits.  Do not cry.  If you really believe that it is God’s will for you to have Biblical prosperity in perspective, you will get up every day expecting major changes in your finances.

Biblical prosperity is your present Covenant possession.  Pass your tests.  Be faithful with your tithes and offerings.  Do not falsely accuse God of unfaithfulness while He is developing your capacity to prosper.  Be patient.  Stay composed.  Believe it is yours now.

That is the present tense of faith.

The Future Tense of Faith for Biblical Prosperity

“Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye SHALL have them.” (Mark 11:24)

We saw that Jesus has, past tense, provided redemption from the curse of poverty.  We also saw that Jesus stressed the importance of believing that Biblical prosperity is your present Covenant possession when you pray for it.

Notice also that Jesus spoke of the future tense of faith when He said, “… and ye shall (future tense) have them.”

So we see that faith for anything, including Biblical prosperity, also has a future tense.

Barbara gave me her word that she HAD purchased those aviation videos for me.  Based on her word I knew they were mine, NOW.  It was just a matter of time before they WOULD appear.  The farmer knows it is just a matter of time before his harvest will appear.  The expectant Mother knows it is just a short matter of time before her child will appear.

So it is true with Biblical prosperity in perspective.  It is just a matter of time before it will appear.  It is yours now and it is soon to appear.  It became yours over 2,000 years ago.  Do not question God’s integrity, honesty or trustworthiness.  The fulfillment of the promise is on the way.

“I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning.” (Psalm 130:5,6)

Watch for Biblical prosperity to come.  Wait patiently and expectantly for Biblical prosperity to come.  It is as sure as the morning appearing.  Do not set dates or times.  Let the Lord do that.

Your job is to know that Jesus has redeemed you from the Curse of the Law.  Your job is to know that God says Biblical prosperity in perspective is your present possession, just like those videos were my present possession.  Your job is to know that Biblical prosperity will manifest just like my videos manifested, just like the farmer’s harvest manifests and just like the Mother’s child manifests.

Do not watch and wait to see IF it is true.  Watch and wait to see THAT it IS true.  God is using the angels, He’s talking to other people, He’s opening doors, He’s giving you favor, He’s aligning circumstances and situations.  He’s poised and ready to even suspend the Laws of Nature if necessary to get it to you.

However, you must allow Him to do so.  How?  By recognizing the three tenses of faith.

Jesus HAS provided it for you.  It IS yours now.  It WILL manifest.  Unleash expectation for it.

Keep the following thoughts in mind.  In some cases, the more you are believing for, the longer you need to be prepared to stand.  Not always, but in some cases.

Also, praying for money is different than praying for anything else.  Praying for money almost always involves other people.  God is not a counterfeiter.  He is not going to create money and introduce it into the economy illegally for you.  He is going to somehow send money to you which is presently contained within the world’s economy.

In order to do this He is going to have to talk to people on your behalf.  People have free will.  God will not violate anyone’s free will, forcing him or her to obey Him concerning you.  Sometimes it takes them a while to understand that they are being led to bless you by the Spirit of God.

Sometimes people who have a Ministry of giving will deliberately take their time until they are absolutely sure that they are being led by the Spirit of God to help you.  Others may not know that the Spirit of God is leading them and it takes time to convince them, in particular.

God will take whatever time is necessary to continue to impress upon their hearts, over and over, that He is wanting them to do this for you.  Your job is to be patient and know that what you need is on its way and it will arrive.  God will talk to people or bring about a particular situation that will bless you in the way that you have asked Him.

If you should be impressed that God is talking to someone about helping you, leave it with Him.  Never attempt to influence someone for or against what you are impressed God is telling him or her to do.  Pray for them.  Take authority over Satan and demon powers in the matter, binding all negative influence. (Luke 10:19,20; Ephesians 6:12)

However, you must never attempt to influence them in the matter.  Let God be God.  He will not violate their free will and neither should you.

Remember, your persuasion of God’s integrity, honesty and trustworthiness is the under girding foundation of that which you are expecting with pleasure.  Get excited.

Christ has provided Biblical prosperity for you.

It is happening now!  It will manifest soon.

Be blessed … John and Barbara Hamel
