Earthly Habitations of Demons 
Demons Prefer Human Habitation

In our lesson "Satan's Kingdom. Satan's Fall" we saw how Satan desired to replace the Most High God in Heaven.  He initiated a rebellion in Heaven amongst lesser angels and God was obligated to cast them all out.  

From that time on Satan and demon powers have sought to destroy all of God's government and all Godly order everywhere outside of Heaven.  From the moment God first created man, placing him in the Garden, Satan and company have sought to weaken and destroy God's human creation through hatred, racism, homosexuality, wars, famine, pestilence and rebellion.  To this day Satan continues to do all within his ability to turn man from Holy God and to oppress him into serving evil.  

The God of Justice Who presides over the Supreme Court of the Universe does not blame man for this, but rather He points His gavel directly at Satan and says, "I blame you for what has happened to My man."

It is Satan, not God, who seeks to dominate and oppress man and to destroy the Earth in the same way he once sought to dominate God and destroy Heaven.  

Satan and his fallen angels have been cast into the Earth by Almighty God Who expects Born-Again man to hold them in incarceration until the angel comes to lock them in the Pit according to Revelation chapter 20.

In this lesson we will see the three primary Earthly habitations demon spirits seek out in their continued attempts to dominate Planet Earth and its inhabitants.

Demon Spirits Seek to Inhabit Entire Nations

"How art thou fallen from Heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground which did weaken the nations ... They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee and consider thee saying, Is this the one that made the earth to tremble. that did shake kingdoms, that made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that open not the house of his prisoners?" (Isaiah 14:12-17)

The first place Satan has always sought to set his throne in order to dominate large groupings of people is over entire nations. Throughout human history Satan has snared entire civilizations, empires and nations through the use of demon powers. (Ephesians 2:2; 2 Corinthians 4:4; John 12, 14, 16)  Entire nations have become demon-infested as a result of kicking the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob out of those nations.  

Entire nations have become demon-infested by refusing to welcome , the person of Jesus Christ, the only Savior of mankind.  By doing so they open the door to false religions, make-believe spiritual disciplines, seducing spirits and doctrines of demons.  As a result entire nations have become the habitation of demons.  

From ancient Egypt, to the Babylonian Empire, to Alexander the Great, Napoleon, Adolph Hitler, Benedito Mussolini, to the former Soviet Union, to present-day China, North Korea, Iraq, Iran, etc., demon powers have sought and have continued to seek to overtake and inhabit entire nations.  

It all began with the fall of Lucifer.  Satan’s name was originally Lucifer.  Lucifer once ruled this Earth we live on as a holy angel of God until he decided, along with one-third of the angels of Heaven, to overthrow God’s Empire. (Revelation 12:9)  But the Empire struck back.  God's Empire always strikes back.

As we have already seen in Isaiah chapter fourteen, Lucifer and his fallen angels were cast violently out of Heaven and thrown back down into this Earth where Born-Again man is now to hold them in incarceration.  This is why Jesus said Satan, fallen angels and evil spirits are subject to the Believer.

“I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.” (Luke 10:18-20)

As a result of Satan and his fallen angels being cast back down into the Earth, we have countries and nations ruled by certain princes of darkness who are all under the government and rule of Satan.  

This is why it is so important to pray and ask God for Gospel laborers to go into the harvest fields of these oppressed nations to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to them. (Matthew 9:36-38)  

This is why we pray for Apostles, missionaries and Evangelists to go into these demon-dominated countries to raise up works for Christ.  If missionaries do not go into these countries, if we do not pray that laborers will be raised up from within these countries, Heaven cannot be populated and Hell cannot be plundered concerning these nations.  

Even the United States of America is a constant target for Satan to rule through his continual efforts. Three primary areas Satan uses in his endeavor to control America is unfettered abortion, the normalizing of homosexuality and continual tampering with Israel's security.

Satan has also convinced the God-hating people of this country to rip the Ten Commandment posters off the elementary school classroom walls, replacing them with posters illustrating to our children the proper use of condoms.  If we do not bind him and cast him out by using our God-given Christian authority, continually resisting him in Jesus' Strong Name, he will take this country even as he has taken many other countriesl.  

Christian America has done a poor job of resisting Satan in these three primary areas.  As a result, God has not been able to protect us entirely from the onslaught of the Muslim holy war called Jihad and Islamic world domination.  However, if American Christians will judge themselves and repent for these three primary sins, resisting Satan in Jesus' Strong Name, our weakened nation will be supernaturally strengthened once again.

So keep in mind as you pray to ask God's forgiveness for your not doing more about these three primary national sins, if you have not.  As you pray, resist Satan in Jesus' Name, informing him that you will not allow him to take your country.  When Christians sit back and do nothing about their national sins, their country runs the risk of becoming a habitation of demons.

In the Apostle John’s revelation of future events, an angel appeared to him and cried out mightily with a strong voice.

“Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of demons, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.” (Revelation 18:2)

In the above verse "unclean and hateful birds" symbolize evil spirits.  It is clear from Scripture that Satan and demon spirits seek to inhabit entire nations. 

Demon Spirits Seek to Inhabit Cities within Nations

“And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write … I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.” (Revelation 2:12-13)

Pergamos was an ancient Greek city in modern-day Turkey sixteen miles inland from the Aegean Sea.  As beautiful as it was, it was where Satan’s seat was located.  This clearly indicates that Satan and demon powers set up their thrones and rule from within cities.  

Within these cities Satan has greater power than he has in the outlying regions to perform his hateful deeds.  Have you ever noticed how extreme poverty, violence, oppression and immorality are highly concentrated in inner cities?  I have lived in many major American cities over the past thirty years or more of Ministry.  I have noticed that there are certain pockets within every major city where Satan and demons and their behaviors are far more concentrated than in other areas of those cities.

Much of Satan's efforts to control cities is focused on the local Church.  Satan and demon powers operate through many Churches in most all of America's bigger cities. There are multiplied thousands of Believers in Jesus Christ who are in bondage to Satan in these Churches because their leaders are in bondage to Satan as a result of not submitting to and teaching the Bible.  Both the leadership and the people need to be delivered by the power of Jesus' Name.

Many American Christians make the mistake of believing that demon spirits only inhabit super-large cities such as Jakarta, Indonesia, Moscow, Russia, Calcutta, India, Las Vegas, Nevada or Hollywood, California.  However, they are seriously mistaken.  All across America, in small and large cities, bookstores, cable television, the Internet, cults and false religions are bursting at the seams with demonic teachings, seeking the foolish who unknowingly open themselves up to become habitations of demon powers.  

Yes, Satan and demon powers prefer larger cities because there are more people there to oppress.  But by no means do they limit themselves to large cities alone.  Some of America's smallest cities rank amongst the most oppressed cities because Believers who lack knowledge of their authority in Christ allow demonic principalities and powers to run unchecked. 

It is entirely the responsibility of American Christians to stand up and verbally command Satan and demon powers to leave their communities.  Jesus referred to this as "binding the strong man."  He also said that Christians who refuse to bind the strong man in their communities are being counterproductive, working against Him and enabling Satan and his cohorts. 

“But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you. Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house. He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.” (Matthew 12:28-30)

It is up to Believers in Jesus Christ to take authority over Satan and demons in both the nations and the cities of the world.  Some of the most beautiful cities in the world are being completely taken over by individuals with homosexual spirits.  Homosexuals tend to have a lot of money.  This is because they are unable to reproduce and have children which relieves them of great expense.  They are also normally two income households which results in their having more money than the average American.  This enables them to live in the most beautiful and most expensive cities.  As a result, the cities they claim become habitations of demons.  

You can take a demon-possessed individual, dress them in fine European clothing, teach them proper etiquette, teach them the difference between a salad and a dinner fork, teach them the difference between Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometries, teach them to read the complete works of Shakespeare in multiple languages, to use perfect grammar and to become highly prolific in the use of modern technology. However, a sodomite is still a sodomite, no matter how you dress or educate them, and is in great need of deliverance.

Demon spirits cannot be educated out of people. Demon spirits cannot be analyzed out of people. Demon spirits cannot be talked out of people.  Demon spirits cannot even be loved out of people.  Jesus said demon spirits must be cast out of individuals and they must be cast out of entire cities as well.

There are two cities in the Bible that had such a problem with sodomy and all other forms of immorality that they were named after their sins - Sodom and Gomorrah.   

Homosexuality and lesbianism are not the unforgiveable sin, however, it is still sin which needs forgiveness. Many cities in America have tremendous problems with homosexual spirits.     

The biggest city Jesus ever saw was Jerusalem.  It was so bound in Satan’s grasp that He wept over it.  Today He weeps over cities like Washington, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Nashville, New Orleans, Las Vegas and Boston because they are full of soothsayers, crystal gazers, cults, false religion and immorality of every kind.  There is more witchcraft and demon oppression in the cities of the United States than there is in any underdeveloped nation on this Earth.  But there is no Satanic power that can stand before the Church of Jesus Christ.  

Jesus promised the gates of Hell would not prevail against His Church. The tiniest drop of Jesus' Blood is greater than the greatest concentration of evil and can cleanse the biggest of cities.  

Use your faith in prayer and advance on the cities of your nation, commanding them to be free of demonic principalities and powers.  You will see miracles when you do.  It is not just the job of the Preacher to cast out unclean spirits.  It is the job of every Believer in Jesus Christ. (Mark 16:15-20; John 14:12; James 4:7)  

Demon Spirits Seek to Inhabit Living Flesh, Human or Animal

Satan and demon spirits not only seek to dominate nations and cities, they desire to dominate, possess, oppress and obsess individual human beings and animals regardless of where they live. This is perfectly illustrated in the following Bible narrative from Luke's Gospel.

"And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee. And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had demons long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs. 

"When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not. For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness. And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many demons were entered into him. 

"And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep. And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them. Then went the demons out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked. 

"When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country. Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the demons were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the demons was healed. Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and he went up into the ship, and returned back again. 

"Now the man out of whom the demons were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying, Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.” (Luke 8:26-39)

Notice something very interesting in verse thirty. Jesus actually asked the head demon what his name was. The demon responded, “Legion, for we are many.”  

A Roman Legion in that day consisted of between 2,000 and 6,000 men depending on who you listen to.  That is how many demons this man had.  Demons do not require physical space like physical things in the physical world do.  Multiple thousands of demons can be on the inside of one human being at the same time.  

Irregardless of how many demons are on the inside of a human being, every one of them is subject to the Name of Jesus.  If someone wants to be free, any Believer who has faith in the Bible can set them free in Jesus’ Strong Name.  You, as a Believer in Jesus Christ, can supernaturally set people free through the bold use of Christian authority.  

Ministers and Believers in Jesus Christ do not send demon-possessed, oppressed or obsessed people to the psychiatrist, psychologist or counselor.  Psychiatrists, psychologists and counselors are unable to talk demons out of people. Demons will be talked out of individuals or animals by no one.  Demons must be cast out by faith in Jesus' Name. 

The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ is not a referral agency.  The Church of Jesus Christ is comprised of millions of authorized agents of the Lord Jesus. (James 4:7)  

Whether they be insane spirits, deaf spirits, infirm spirits, homosexual spirits, blind spirits, spirits of infirmity, etc., they absolutely must come out in Jesus’ Name if someone desires to be free.

Notice also in the above narrative when the spirits came out of the man, they went into the pigs grazing nearby.  Jesus did not send the spirits into the pigs.  He did not specifically tell them to go into the pigs.  He did not specifically tell them not to go into the pigs.  He simply allowed them to do whatever they were going to do.  The individuals who were raising those pigs were doing so against Hebrew law and Jesus was not going to get involved with protecting or not protecting the pigs which were being raised illegally.  Jesus was not a law-breaker.  He simply told the spirits to "Come out of the man."  The demons chose to go into the pigs because when evil spirits cannot find habitation in a human being, they will seek habitation in animals.  

I am sure every farmer in the world could tell you a story of animals that just seemed to possess a strange spirit and had to be destroyed because they could not live at peace with the other animals.  Those animals ended up in the butcher shop or on the supper table because the farmer did not understand his authority in Jesus Christ. 

I knew an individual in a major American city who had both a dog and a cat which were possessed of demon powers. Both animals were tormented and demented.  The dog would pace compulsively with his head down like a lion in a cage.  He did not have the capacity to respond to affection from human beings.  He was despondent and just a strange dog that would not interact with humans or other animals. I explained to the owner how Satan and demon spirits will enter into animals if they are unable to possess humans. The owner requested that I pray a prayer of deliverance for the dog which I did.  The dog changed immediately.  I cast the unclean spirits out of the animal in Jesus’ Name and the dog became immediately affectionate and responsive. He remained that way.

The dog owner was so impressed that it stirred her faith for her wild cat to be delivered as well.  The cat was unpredictable, violent and destructive towards human beings.  You could see in its eyes that it was being tormented by insane spirits.  The Name of Jesus drove those demons out of that creation of God and it, too, was immediately and radically changed.  It would no longer leap, jump, screech, bite, scratch and run berserk, knocking things over and hiding. It was an immediate and a startling deliverance.  

The owner of these two animals explained to me how her husband had committed suicide in the home and that was when the animals began having problems with odd, demonic behavior. There is no doubt in my mind that the suicide spirits who caused her husband to take his life, left him at the point of death and went immediately into the animals.

God loves your animals because you love your animals.  If you are having problems with odd behavior, despondency, constant reoccurrences of sickness, violence, etc., as a Believer there is something you can do.  You can use the Name of Jesus and tell those oppressive spirits to come out.  You will be amazed by the miraculous deliverance you will see.  However, you must be Born-Again and belong to Jesus or the spirits will not obey you. (Acts 19:13-17)

This is a message of hope not fear.  As Believers in Jesus Christ we were created for signs, wonders and miracles.  God does not want us to be afraid of Satan nor does He want us to ignore him. Ignoring Satan is equally as dangerous as being afraid of him. Rise up in your Christian authority and resist Satan and evil spirits wherever you perceive they are present - in your nation, your city, yourself, your family or in anyone else who desires to be free. 

God loves the nations of the world.  He loves Israel in particular. (Isaiah 43:1-7)  God blesses and inhabits entire nations just as Satan curses and inhabits entire nations.  Repent for any sin that may be in your life and call God's blessings upon our nation.  Ask Him to grant Godly sorrow to your nation for their national sins and He will do it. (2 Corinthians 7:10)  

God loves the cities of the world.  He loves Jerusalem in particular. (Psalm 87:2) Jerusalem is right now a city of great violence and a magnet for political and spiritual strife as Satan desires to destroy it.  But one day soon it will once again be a place of God's peace, presence and power.  

God loves, blesses and inhabits cities just as Satan hates, curses and inhabits cities. 

God blesses and inhabits people who accept Christ as their Savior, even as Satan curses and inhabits people who reject Christ as their Savior.

Three earthly habitations of demons: Nations. Cities. All living beings.
