The Power of Angels
Part Two
by Pastor John Hamel

“And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:”  (2Thessalonians 1:7-8)

The word “mighty” used here concerning His angels is “dunamis.” It means “Worker of miracles, strength, violent, mighty wonderful works.”

The Apostle Paul used the same word when writing to the Church at Rome.

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power (dunamis) of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” (Romans 1:16)

As we saw in "The Power of Angels" Part One much is stated throughout Scripture about the supernatural power of angels, but never is it even implied that they are omnipotent.

To be omnipotent is to be all powerful. Only God is omnipotent.  Neither are angels omniscient.  To be omniscient is to be all knowing.  Only God is omniscient.

Angels cannot create, they cannot search the hearts and minds of human beings and they are unable to reproduce themselves.

Nonetheless, angels are capable of amazing feats of strength and supernatural power.

There are over 300 references to angels in the Bible.  No less than 104 of those references are angels appearing to man for his benefit.

In the "Power of Angels" Part One we saw ...

Angels Ascend and Descend
Angels Appear to Animals
Angels Drive God’s Chariots
Angels Deliver Believers from Unjust Treatment
Angels Ride Spirit Horses from Heaven to Earth and Back
Angels Possess Supernatural Physical Strength
Angels Are Immortal

Angels Possess Healing Power

"After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.” (John 5:1-4)

There is evidence in Scripture that angels operate in all the Gifts of the Spirit – the Word of Wisdom, the Word of Knowledge, the Discerning of Spirits, the Gift of Faith, the Working of Miracles, the Gifts of Healings, Tongues, Interpretation of Tongues and Prophecy.

In our above text we see an angel operating in Gifts of Healings.  The Gifts of Healings is when the power of God moves through a human or an angel to impart healing to a human being without the use of doctors or medicine.

In the Bible we see evidence that angels are carriers and imparters of the anointing.  An angel of God laid his giant hand on my head three times in 1981. The healing virtue of Jesus came out of his hand into me and I was slain in the Spirit for a three-day period.  When I regained consciousness I discovered that I had been delivered supernaturally from drug and alcohol addiction.  That was an angel operating in Gifts of the Spirit, possibly the very same angel who troubled the water in the pool at Bethesda 2,000 years ago.  This is very possible because all the same angels and demons who operated within the Earth's atmosphere when Jesus was here still operate in this Earth today.

Angels Appear as Angels

“But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre, And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him. And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.” (John 20:11-14)

Here we see two angels appearing as angels accompanying Jesus after His resurrection.  It is not uncommon for angels to appear wherever Jesus appears.

On the fourth day, after having been slain in the Spirit for that three-day period, I experienced a visitation of the Lord Jesus.  With Him were two angels.  I believe they were the same two angels who accompanied Jesus after His resurrection, appearing to Mary.  I believe these were two of Jesus' personal guardian angels.

During that visitation a rotating cloud appeared before me.  The two angels came partially out of the cloud, pushing it open in opposite directions from one another, like sliding doors.  The Lord Jesus came out of the opening in the cloud appearing to me, commissioning me to preach the Gospel and to do the work of the Ministry.

At the end of the visitation Jesus went back into the opening in the cloud and the two angels followed Him, closing the opening and disappearing into the cloud the same way they had come out of the cloud.

In other angelic visitations I have had since that time angels have appeared to me as giant men.  However, these angels did not appear as men.  These angels appeared as angels with wings and robes.

Angels Appear as Men

“Let brotherly love continue. Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” (Hebrews 13:1-2)

Here Paul reminds us to be hospitable to human strangers because you never know when you could be experiencing angelic visitation.

You may have experienced angelic visitation unknowingly as an angel appeared to you in the form of a human being or still might yet!  It is important that we watch how we treat all people, even strangers.  God may be testing and proving us for His purposes.

Angels Appear as Beasts

“And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind. And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle. And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.” (Revelation 4:6-8)

Now, do not be scared off by the archaic term “beast.”  It actually means ‘”living creatures.” The word is “Zoa.”

These angels are not beasts in the human sense of the word at all. They are literal angelic beings and are distinguished from the redeemed elders (Revelation 4:9-11), ordinary angels (Revelation 5:1-12), seraphim (Isaiah 6:1-8) and cherubim (Ezekiel 1:4-28; Ezekiel 10:1-22).

These living Zoa appear to be more animal-like than human-like, but they are still friend not foe.  They are created to worship God endlessly and are never to be feared by human beings.  Living Zoa are outstanding creations of God.

“And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to Him that sat on the throne, Who liveth for ever and ever, The four and twenty elders fall down before Him that sat on the throne, and worship Him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for Thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created.” (Revelation 4:9-11)

I believe because the living creatures need no rest that none of the other angels need rest.  They are all supernatural, powerful creatures capable of great feats and wonders.  So you can sleep tight knowing your angels are your 24 hour per day, seven day a week servant protectors.

The Bible says God does not sleep either. (Psalm 121:4) So, there is no sense in you staying up all night worrying about getting your prayers answered. While you sleep the angels of God are searching the avenues of God's wisdom, looking for ways to cause your prayer requests and the Laws of Sowing and Reaping to be fulfilled on your behalf.

Angels Travel at Inconceivable Speeds

“And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.” (Revelation 9:1-2)

This angel appeared as a shooting star alighting from Heaven at an inconceivable rate of speed.  This angel traveled at such a high rate of speed that he appeared to John to be a meteor.  But it was not a meteor.  It was not a shooting star.  This was an intelligent, living being who had entered into the Earth's atmosphere at an inconceivable rate of speed on an assignment from Holy God.

Personal pronouns and personal acts are ascribed to this angel here. (Revelation 9:1-2)  Only an intelligent, living being could be given a key to a material place and a command to use that key as an act of obedience as described here.

My wife and I, together, experienced an angel coming to us out of the Heavens at such an inconceivable rate of speed that initially we both thought it was a meteor.  But it was not a meteor at all.  As it turned out, it was an intelligent, living being, an angel of God sent to us on assignment.

Angels Are Unbeatable at Spiritual Combat

“And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.” (Revelation 12:7-8)

This war in Heaven will be the last actual struggle between Satan and God over the possession of the heavenlies where Satan presently and temporarily reigns. (Ephesians 2:2; 6:12)  The angels of God are unbeatable and Satan cannot and will not win in this battle.  This battle will prove to be the end of the road for Satan, his cohorts and all who were unfortunate enough to have been deceived by him.

Satan still today has access to God's Heaven to accuse the brethren.  However, once he is permanently cast out he will never again be able to enter Heaven, even to answer a summons. (Job 1:6; 2:1; Revelation 12:7-12; Zechariah 3:1)  The courts of Heaven will be perpetually closed to him after this final casting out and his ability to accuse Christ's family will be defunct.  He, along with all fallen angels and demons, will be confined to Hell forever. (Matthew 24:41; Revelation 20:10)

What a glorious day that will be for all of Heaven and Earth!

In closing let us review what we have learned in "The Power of Angels" Parts One and Two.

Angels ascend and descend, appear to animals, drive God’s chariots, deliver believers from unjust treatment and ride spirit horses from Heaven to Earth.  They also possess supernatural physical strength.  Angels are immortal, they operate in all the Gifts of the Spirit, possess healing power, appear as angels, appear as men, travel at inconceivable speeds and are absolutely unbeatable at spiritual combat.

Redeemed Human Beings Eternally Rule Over Heaven's Angels

“Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?” (1 Corinthians 6:3)

The Greek word for "judge" in this passage is "krino."  It means "to judge; make a legal decision."  It does not refer to passing sentence on fallen angels, or sending them to judgment.  What it does mean is that redeemed human beings have been exalted higher than angels and will rule over them, making decisions concerning the administration of the universe by them.

The saints of God, not angels, become heirs of God and joint-heirs with Jesus Christ to inherit all things through Eternity. (Romans 8:17-18; Galatians 5:21; Hebrews 6:12; Revelation 21:7)

Even now saints are to be examples of redemption and spiritual authority to angels. (Ephesians 3:8-11; 1 Corinthians 4:9; 1 Corinthians 11:10)

Angels are eager to learn as much as possible about God’s plan for His redeemed human creation. (1 Peter1:10-13)

Keep in mind always, that Christ in you is greater than any angel or any confederation of angels or demons. (Colossians 1:27)

Contrary to what religion teaches, God has a chain of command and it is as follows:  At the top of the chain is the Trinity.  Directly below the Trinity are Born-Again, redeemed human beings. Beneath human beings, and subject to them, are the angels of God. Way down at the bottom of the chain are Satan and demon spirits. They are subservient to the Believer, to obedient angels and to the Trinity.

Believers must speak to their angels, instructing them, "Go, fix my family, my finances, fortify my future and cause my circumstances to come in line with God's perfect plan for my life in Jesus' Strong Name." (Psalm 103:20-21)
