Supernatural Biblical Prayer 5

How & When to Pray the Prayer of Unity

by Pastor John Hamel

We have studied how and when to pray the Prayer of Faith, the Prayer of Commitment, the Prayer of Submission and the Prayer of Agreement.

In this lesson we will study how and when to pray the Prayer of Unity.

The Prayer of Unity is slightly different from the Prayer of Agreement because the Prayer of Unity involves more than two or three Believers.

In the third chapter of Acts it is recorded how Peter and John used the strong Name of Jesus to heal a crippled man who was sitting on the ground in front of the Temple.

This resulted in thousands of people running to see the miracle.  Peter took opportunity to preach Jesus to these people and the religious leaders were infuriated. (Acts 3:1-26)

They had Peter and John arrested, rebuked them and forbid them to ever use the Name of Jesus again.  Peter and John would not agree to the terms.

They were then released and returned to their own company of like-minded Believers.  (Acts 4:1-22)

The Tremendous Power of Corporate, Unified Prayer

“And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.  And when they [the unified Believers] heard that, they lifted up their voice to God WITH ONE ACCORD and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:  …  And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

“And when they [the unified Believers] had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.  And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

"And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.  Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.  And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.” (Acts 4:23-37)

Some individuals have wrongly taken the above narrative and used it to teach that the Bible condones communal living.  That is not what is happening here.

When these Believers got together, lifting up their voice in one accord, after having heard Peter and John’s testimony, things started shaking.  In a spirit of complete unity, they asked God for signs and wonders and they got them.  The power of God filled the very place where they prayed.  The building that they were meeting in actually began to shake on its very foundation.  The power of God fell on everyone in attendance and they were refreshed and refilled with new boldness.

Money and material objects were thrown at the feet of the Apostles who used it to seek and save the lost and to destroy the works of Satan in the lives of suffering people. (Luke 19:10; 1John 3:8)  This is the true reason that money comes to Believers.

This is what happens when like-minded congregations come together, lifting their voices before God, expecting Him to move in their midst.  What a wild bunch this was.  Right out loud, altogether and right in Church, they just let it go.

Apparently God was quite pleased by all the excitement over His Son, because He turned around and let the power fall.

This still happens today wherever Believers really believe and act like it.  Click on “The Holy Spirit & the Local Church, Supernatural Control & Guidance Part One.”  When you finish there, click on “The Holy Spirit & the Local Church, Supernatural Control & Guidance Part Two.” There you will read how the Holy Spirit still directs and honors unified, supernatural prayer today.

Even People in the Old Testament Knew the Power of Unity

When King Solomon completed the building of God’s Temple, he gathered all of Israel together.  He called all the leaders, the heads of the tribes, the chiefs of the fathers and the Levitical Priesthood together.  He commanded that the Ark of the Covenant be placed permanently in the newly completed Temple.  Every voice was lifted in a spirit of unity and sure enough, the supernatural occurred.

“It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers WERE AS ONE, TO MAKE ONE SOUND to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the Lord, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the Lord; So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of God.” (2Chronicles 5:13,14)

When these individuals came together as one, lifting their voices in unity to make one sound of praise and thanksgiving before the Lord, the Glory cloud came in.  The Glory cloud is simply the power of God in demonstration.

God’s power filled the Temple like a cloud and overwhelmed these people to where even the Priests could not stand on their feet to perform their duties.  Everyone was falling to the ground, overwhelmed by the power of God’s goodness.

You can be sure if anyone was sick, they went home healed that day.  If anyone was tormented, they went home free.  If anyone was suffering poverty or lack, they went home and encountered supernatural provision.

This is still what happens today when congregations of true Believers lift their voices in the spirit of unity, praying and praising God for His goodness and His mercy.  I have seen it.  I have been in it.  I have benefited from it.

You can, too, if you will just get yourself into a Church of like-minded Believers who know how to pray the Prayer of Unity.  The Church who knows how to pray together, knows how to whip the fire out of the devil together.

The Prayer of Unity.  It brings the Glory.

When the Glory comes, virtually anything good can and will occur.

Try it.  You’ll like it.
