Angels & Demons

Starting with the Bible Basics

by Pastor John Hamel

“Bless the Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.”  (Psalm 103:20)

Are you a Believer in Jesus Christ?

If you are, the Bible says the angels of God are waiting to help you.

Angels, by the way, are not plump little naked babies flying around with bows and arrows.  They are powerful Beings who “excel in strength.”  Many are Warriors who are waiting for you to “commission” them in order that they may help you. (Daniel 10:5-14)

I have seen angels both with and without wings.

The Bible is clear.  The angels hearken to the voice of God’s Word and it is the Believer who serves as God’s mouthpiece in the Earth. (Jeremiah 15:19)  When you, as a Believer, tell your angels what to do, they will do it.

Of course, you cannot tell them to do foolish things that are wrong and in opposition to Biblical teaching.

However, as long as God has agreed in the Bible to meet your particular need, you can respectfully commission your angels to cause that need to be met.

For example, the Bible says, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)  Therefore, you can say, “Angels of God, I commission you to go now and cause the money for that bill to come, in Jesus’ Name.”

The Bible also says, “For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.” (Psalm 91:11)  You can say, “Angels, I instruct you to accompany, preserve and defend me in all my ways, in Jesus’ Name.”  They will do as you respectfully command and keep you from accidents, incidents and injuries!

This will work on behalf of your family members as well.  After all, angels are Ministering Spirits sent forth from Heaven to help you as an “heir of Salvation.” (Hebrews 1:14)

Again, this is a special, supernatural Ministry reserved only for those who believe in Jesus as their Master, Lord and Savior.

In this present evil world, there are other supernatural entities we must also deal with daily.  These are evil spirit beings known as Satan and demon powers.  They would prefer that human beings deny that they even exist.

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12)

Unlike the angels, these evil spirits are interested only in hurting us.  They have been assigned to kill, steal and destroy. (John 10:10)  They are interested in one thing -- knocking true Believers in Christ right out of commission.  They do this by lying, deceiving, tempting, confusing, discouraging and harassing.

However, there is good news!  The Believer has delegated authority over all evil manifestations, even in their greatest concentration.

“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions [symbolic of Satan and demon powers], and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”  (Luke 10:19)

“… Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)

Keep this one thing in mind.  Authority in the Spirit world is a privilege reserved for Believers only.  If Jesus, the Prophet, is not yet your Redeemer, just say, “Jesus, I choose Your Lordship.  I choose Your Authority.” (Romans 10:13)

He will empower you and then you can boldly say, “Satan, you are released from all assignments against me and my family.  Angels, you are commissioned to bear us up and pour on the help and the blessings, in Jesus’ Name!” (John 14:13)
