The Door into the Sheepfold

There’s Simply No Other Way

by Pastor John Hamel

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that enters not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.  But he that enters in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep....  I am the door: by Me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”  (John 10:1,2,9)

These are the words of Jesus Christ.  He is referring to Himself as the only Door through which human persons can enter into God’s Sheepfold.

In Jesus’ day, a sheepfold or sheep “pen” consisted of four high walls of stone, one door and no roof.  The shepherd would lead the sheep in through the door.  He would then lie across the doorway.  This would keep the sheep in and all intruders out.

Jesus makes it clear in this allegory that anyone who thinks they can get into God’s Sheepfold by going around the “Door” and going over the wall is in for a sad surprise on their Judgment Day.

All of the world’s false religions and make-believe disciplines teach their disciples that Jesus is wrong for saying He is the only “Door” to the Sheepfold.  They wrongly teach that Jesus was mistaken, lying or just plain deceived Himself.

They teach that it is perfectly fine to enter the Sheepfold by going over the wall and avoiding the “Door.”  Some of these false teachers and false prophets are sincere in their belief that there are other ways into God’s Sheepfold.  Problem is, they are sincerely wrong

I always ask the question of people who’ve been deceived by these false leaders, “Do you know why deceived people don’t know they’re deceived?”

Almost always they respond, “No.  Why?”

“Because they’re deceived!” I respond.  It’s just that simple.

Deceived people don’t realize they’re deceived because they are deceived!  Their false teachers are deceived.  Submitting to them deceives their followers.

Jesus referred to these false teachers and false prophets as “Thieves and Robbers.”   He called them thieves and robbers because following them will result in you being “ripped off.”

Ripped off of all the present provision and protection Jesus is offering to those who enter only through the “Door.” (Psalm 91:14; Philippians 4:19)

Ripped off of Eternal Life in Heaven because they believed lies and ignored the truth of the “Door.”

Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)

What do you believe?  Do you believe the false prophets who say, “Jesus is a liar.  There are many ways into God’s Sheepfold.  I myself am just one of many!”?

Or do you believe Jesus, Who said, “I am the Door. Period.”?

Jesus also said that by entering the Sheepfold through Him, you would be saved from the penalty and punishment of your sins. (Romans 3:23; 2 Corinthians 5:21)

You’ll face a Judgment of Reward, not a Judgment of Punishment.  He said you will also …go in and out and find pasture.”

This means He will personally care for you the way a True Shepherd cares for His sheep.  He will give you all the provision and protection necessary to sustain you.

Do you believe Him?

Then say, “Jesus, You’re the Door I choose into the Sheepfold.” (Romans 10:13)

That’s when things will stop happening TO you and start happening FOR you.

God promises you a life beyond your wildest dreams. (Ephesians 3:20)

Expect the miraculous – that’s the secret to life.
