Looks Don’t Count

by Pastor John Hamel

“And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draws nigh.” (Luke 21:28)

Does it look to you like the world has gone right “over the edge” and cannot survive much longer?  Do your personal circumstances seem so “out of control” that things can never be normal again?

Well, take heart, because Jesus said when it appears that everything around you looks like certain doom – look up – your redemption (help) is right at hand.  Look towards God when things look bleak.  Look to His Word, look to His promise of help.

When it comes to negative, seemingly hopeless circumstances, Jesus said in essence, “Looks don’t count!  Get your eyes off of your circumstances and turn them to the promises of God.”

This is what He meant when He said, “Look up.”

This is what the Bible means when it says, “For we walk by FAITH, not by SIGHT!” (2Corinthians 5:7)

Look to God in the midst of the most extreme circumstances.  If Jesus is your Savior, He’s right there with you, willing and able to turn into victory what only looks like defeat.

LOOKS DON’T COUNT!

When darkness surrounds you and it looks like you’ll never find your way through, God is your Source of light.

“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

When it looks as if Satan’s attacks will finally take you out, God will deliver you

Because he hath set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known My Name.” (Psalm 91:14)

When it looks like your finances are so horribly messed up that you’ll never recover, God promises to bail you out.

But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)

When it looks like sickness and disease is going to have its way with your body and take you to an early grave, God promises to be your Healer

“Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” (1 Peter 2:24)

When it looks like all is lost, you’ll always be alone and you just can’t go on anymore, God promises to comfort you and to help you.

“…for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support.  [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]  So we take comfort and are encouraged and confidently and boldly say, The Lord is my Helper; I will not be seized with alarm [I will not fear or dread or be terrified].  What can man do to me?” (Hebrews 13:5,6 Amplified Bible)

So when your whole world looks to have been turned upside down, keep this one thought in mind – LOOKS DON’T COUNT!

What the Bible promises is all that matters.

Trust God’s love

If you’ve not made Jesus your Lord, just say, “Jesus, You’re my choice” (Romans 10:13) and you’ll enter into a Covenant with God, qualifying you to “Look Up” because your help is right at hand!
