Jesus the Healer

Totally Himself

by Pastor John Hamel

"For Jesus doesn't change - yesterday, today, tomorrow, He's always totally himself."  (Hebrews 13:8 Message Bible)

In this study we'll be looking at just some of the multiple reasons why Jesus still heals the physically sick today.

Don’t allow anybody to tell you that He’s not still in the healing business.  Healing is His nature.  That will never change.  He’s still and always will be totally Himself.

FIRST, Jesus still heals the sick because Jesus still has compassion.  A leper once came to Jesus requesting healing.  The Bible says, "And Jesus moved with compassion put forth his hand and touched him and saith unto him, 'I will.  Be thou clean.'" (Mark 1:41

This was probably the first time anyone had tenderly touched this man in years.  People need to be touched.  The most stable people in the world are the ones who were touched tenderly, lovingly and consistently as children.  Jesus is reaching out with compassion to stabilize all with His loving, healing touch today.

In the Bible, every time compassion flowed through Jesus, someone received a physical miracle. (Matthew 9:35,36; 14:14; 20:30-34)

Ask for His healing touch.  You'll be blessed.

SECOND, Jesus referred to healing as the "Children's Bread" while talking to a woman who was seeking healing for her daughter. (Mark 7:25-30)  What Jesus meant was that healing belongs to all of God's children who enter God's family through Him alone.

If you have become a child of God by simply telling Jesus, "You're my choice," then physical healing belongs to you as a Covenant privilege.  It is your Covenant right to call for healing whenever sickness comes against you. (James 5:14-16)

THIRD, Jesus still heals the sick to fulfill every Prophecy which said He would do so.  The Prophet Isaiah said that Jesus "... was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace (of mind) was upon him: and with His stripes we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5)

The word "healed" used by Isaiah literally means "to be stitched up and to be cured as a physician cures."  Some say Isaiah was talking about "spiritual" healing only.  A simple look at a Hebrew dictionary clearly proves otherwise.  Isaiah referred to physical healing when he said "as a physician cures."

Around the world today Jesus is still healing all who dare to believe, proving He is the One to Whom Isaiah referred.

Sickness is the penalty for sin. (Deuteronomy 28:15-68)  Jesus has paid the penalty for our sins, therefore, sickness has no place in our bodies. (2 Corinthians 5:21)  Healing is as much a part of our Covenant with God as is pardon from sin.

FOURTH, Jesus also heals to glorify His Father.  "... When they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk and the blind to see ... they glorified the God of Israel." (Matthew 15:31)

Sickness never causes truthful people to glorify God.  God just may get some glory out of someone's life in spite OF their sickness but never because of their sickness.  The only time God got glory in the Bible was when someone was healed from sickness.

This is still true today.  Who in the world is going to give their life to Jesus when they believe His Father is tormenting their loved one with cancer or some other ungodly sickness?

In the Bible, nobody was giving glory to God when Lazarus died.  However, when Jesus came along and raised him from the dead, the whole crowd burst forth giving glory to God. (John 11:43-45)

Jesus still heals today to draw attention to His Father's goodness. (John 10:10)

FINALLY, at least for this study, Jesus still heals to prove why He came to the planet Earth.  The Nation of Israel really dragged their feet when it came to accepting Jesus' claim as "Messiah".

How did Jesus handle their unbelief?  He pointed them to His miracles.

He proclaimed, "Believe the works (mighty signs, deeds and miraculous showing forth): that ye may know and believe that the Father is in Me and I in Him."  (John 10:36-38)

Jesus was saying, in essence, "I'm your Messiah and I have the goods to prove it.  Simply believe the miracle evidence."

I am always amazed that some people simply will not believe that Jesus still heals today, in spite of the miracle evidence.

We have a friend who has now gone to Heaven.  His name is Ronald Coyne and he was from Tulsa, Oklahoma.  When Ronald was 7 years old, he had his eye surgically removed due to an accident.  A few years later after being prayed for, he suddenly began to see through his empty eye socket.

A true miracle indeed, which he demonstrated on Oprah, Geraldo, Sally, Donahue and many other talk show programs.  Brother Ronald spent 43 years traveling the world, demonstrating what Jesus had done for him, leading untold hundreds of thousands to Jesus.

I once covered his remaining eye with a handkerchief I had folded eight times, taping it in place with approximately a half roll of adhesive tape.  He then proceeded to read through his empty eye socket personal identification, birth certificates, newspaper articles, licenses, etc., from practically every person in our congregation and never got one wrong.  In spite of this miracle, some still refused to believe.  This always amazes us.

If you would like to read more about this healing miracle, you can simply use a search engine and type in "The Plastic Eye Miracle."  This will take you to websites with Brother Ronald's testimony and I even found one that has a movie about what God did for him before he went to Heaven.

I even found one website where an individual "specializes" in trying to prove that all miracles today are faked.  But when he came to Ronald Coyne's miracle, he said, "The Plastic Eye Miracle has me mystified."

Of course it does.  It’s real.

If you're sick in body today, Jesus is willing to heal you.  He still has compassion.

Healing is still the "Children's Bread."

Jesus still fulfills every Prophecy that says He will heal.

He is still proving that He is the Messiah to Whom all the Prophets referred.

Jesus still desires to glorify His Father by healing sick bodies today.

Just ask.

Pray this prayer out loud.

"Father, I believe what I've read here today from the Bible.  I believe it is Your will to heal me.  I release faith for my healing right now.  I know You will do as I ask because You are the God of Love.  Love would never want someone to remain sick for any reason.  Thank You for healing me in Jesus' Name."

Be healed.  Totally healed in Jesus' Strong Name!   ... John and Barbara Hamel
