Let God Be Glorified

Your Healing Will Do Just That

by Barbara Hamel

“And He [Jesus] was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.  And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.

"And when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.  And He laid His hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. ... Ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?” (Luke 13:10-13, 16)

Some people wrongly believe that sickness, disease, accidents, incidents and injuries just might be a test from God.

Others believe these things just might be lessons of sorts.  Normally when asked exactly what that lesson might be, they are at a loss for words.  They just never seem to know.

This is because they simply do not know what the Bible teaches.

The Bible does not teach that God uses sickness, disease, accidents, incidents or injuries to test us or to teach us.

The Bible teaches that sickness, disease, accidents, incidents and injuries do not come from God. They come from Satan.

Yes, some things can and do occur naturally.  But if it were not for Adam bowing his knee to Satan's temptation in the Garden, there would be none of these things in the Earth today.  Therefore, all sickness, all disease, every accident, incident and injury can be traced directly back to Satan.

Jesus knew this.

This is why in our above text, the moment Jesus saw this sick woman He set her free.  He laid His hands on her and immediately delivered her with no questions asked. He knew it was not His Father's will for her to remain in this afflicted condition.  He knew healing her and delivering her from Satan's oppression would bring great glory to His Father.

What does the Bible say the woman did when her back suddenly straightened up?

The Bible says she “glorified God.”

Jesus did not hesitate to immediately heal this woman because He knew her affliction came from Satan and not from Holy God.

"The thief (Satan) cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." (John 10:10)

These are the words of Jesus.  He said Satan is the source of stealing, killing and destroying human life.  Jesus said He came that life might be restored and enjoyed in all of its fullness.

An Accidentally Severed Finger Restored Brings Great Glory to God

My husband and I have a friend who experienced a terrible accident one morning. She and her young daughter had been out shopping. While loading their shopping bags into their van, the young daughter slammed the sliding door shut completely severing the first joint of her mother's left index finger.

Horrified and in shock the mother picked up her finger, wrapped it in a handkerchief and headed immediately for the hospital. You can imagine her young daughter's shock as well.

Once at the hospital, the Emergency surgeon attempted to convince her that it was impossible to restore her finger. He wanted to simply close the wound and discard the severed joint.  Our friend vehemently insisted that the surgeon at least try to re-attach her finger and simply would not take "no" for an answer.

Finally the surgeon agreed but assured her it had been severed in such a way that the finger would not stay in place and that it would not sustain life.

After surgically stitching the finger back in place, the doctor told her that he would only allow her a short period of time for the finger to begin to show signs of life or he would permanently remove it again.  He was very concerned that it would become gangrenous causing further damage to her lower finger and quite possibly her entire hand.

A short while after having her finger sewn back on, she came to us with her dilemma. She told us what happened and what the doctor had told her. She knew we were people of faith.  She believed if we would pray God would answer.

She unwrapped her bandaged finger and showed us the problem.

It was a terribly unpleasant sight indeed.

The surgery had not taken. The upper joint of her finger which the surgeon had sewn back on had shrunk down to the size of a child's finger. It had turned totally black and was twisted and wrinkled. It looked like a piece of dried black licorice.

The severed section of her finger had died, and she was unwilling to go back and have the doctor remove it.

When this Born Again woman asked if we would pray for God to perform a miracle, we told her we would be more than glad to do so, and that God would indeed perform a miracle.

However, we told her there would be one condition.  We asked her if she would be willing to give God, the Father of Jesus Christ, all the glory for the miracle when it occurred.  She agreed. We actually had her tell God that she would do so.  We had her say, "Father, if You will heal my finger and cause it to live again, I will give You all the glory."

My husband asked her again. "You'll give all the glory to God and none to the doctor, correct? We already see here that what the doctor attempted has failed. You will agree that this will be all God and that He will get all of the glory?"

She agreed wholeheartedly.

Holding her injured hand in our hands, we prayed as follows.  "We rebuke the spirit of death from her finger, Satan. We bind the rulers of the darkness of this present evil world and all demonic principalities and powers who would cause this finger to not live again, in Jesus' Name.  Father, we lay our hands on her hand and we ask for Your healing power to flow into her, causing her dead finger to live again.  We ask You to glorify Yourself by causing her finger to live again.  She has promised to give all glory to You and to none other.  Therefore, we expect You to do it.  We expect You to glorify Yourself by restoring her severed, dead finger. And we give You thanks for it in Jesus' Strong Name."

Before parting ways we instructed her on the importance of speaking words of faith, words of life and words of healing over her finger.  We encouraged her to remain positive, hopeful and believing, no matter what she did or did not see occurring after we left her.

We encouraged her to praise God that her finger was being restored and that it would live and not die, in Jesus' Name.  Although this was new to her, she eagerly agreed to do so.

Over the next few days we stayed in touch with her by email, encouraging her to speak words of faith, healing and gratitude to God for her miracle before it even manifested.

It was not long before she came to us to show us her beautiful restored finger.

She unwrapped the small bandage from around her finger and showed us the miracle.

The dead, twisted, shrunken to child size, black dried up finger had miraculously straightened and grown back to full size.

Her once severed finger was now a vibrant, pink adult size finger with blood flowing freely through it.

God had performed her miracle to His glory.

To the doctor's amazement and disbelief the once severed finger had now been fully and miraculously restored.  He simply could not understand how that finger could be as dead as it was and for blood to begin to flow back into it again.

However, we all understood that this was a true miracle of God and our friend gave Him all the glory even as she had promised.

Of course, we gave Him glory ourselves.  What an astounding miracle of God this was to witness. You can imagine her young daughter's joy and relief at what the God of All Goodness had done for her mother.

There is no place in the Bible where we are told that sickness, disease, accidents or injuries ever glorified God.  However, there are multiple examples of individuals who were healed and supernaturally restored, resulting in great glory being given to God.

“Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.” (Matthew 15:31)

“...[Jesus] saith to the sick of the palsy ... Arise ... go thy way into thy house.  And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God ...” (Mark 2:10-12)

By reading the New Testament you will discover even more examples than the ones you have just read.  You will also discover that it is never God’s will for anyone to be sick or injured.

Jesus never sent anyone away who came to Him for healing or restoration.  As a matter of fact, the Bible says that Jesus would heal all who came to Him sincerely.

“...they brought unto Him [Jesus] many that were possessed with devils: and He cast out the spirits with His word, and healed ALL that were sick.” (Matthew 8:16)

“...great multitudes followed Him [Jesus], and He healed them ALL.” (Matthew 12:15)

“...there went virtue out of Him [Jesus] and healed them ALL.” (Luke 6:19)

Remember, the Bible teaches that sickness and tragedies come from Satan.  He is the one who is out to kill you by stealing and destroying your health.

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:  I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)

Jesus made it clear.  Satan is the damnerGod is the Blesser.

Let's go back to our opening Scripture verse for a moment.

Notice something stated by Jesus when the people complained about Him healing the bowed over woman.  Jesus said ...

“Ought not this woman ... whom Satan hath bound ... be loosed from this bond...?” (Luke 13:16)

Jesus always made it perfectly clear that Satan is the one who makes people sick and tries to destroy them, not His Father.

Think about this.  If indeed Jesus’ Father had afflicted this crippled woman, Jesus would have been violating His Father’s will by healing and restoring her.

However, the Bible reveals that Jesus never violated His Father’s will.

“For I came down from Heaven, not to do Mine own will, but the will of Him that sent Me.” (John 6:38)

Jesus was actually performing the will of God when He healed this woman to His Father's glory.

As a matter of fact, Jesus said that every act of healing and restoration were performed by His Father through Him.

“...the Father that dwelleth in Me, He doeth the works.” (John 14:10)

Physical healing and restoration is always the will of God.  However, not all people receive healing.  Why?  Because not all people qualify for healing

Simply say, “Jesus, You’re my one and only choice for Savior, Healer and Restorer.  I forgive anyone who has ever wronged me for anything. God in Heaven, if You will heal me like You healed the woman with the severed finger, I will give You all the glory even as she gave you all the glory, in Jesus' Name.”  That’s the first qualification for healing.

If there is anything else you need to do to cooperate with your healing, God the Father will show you.

Ask Him to do so.

Then the healing power will flow and God will be glorified in your body.

Be blessed in Jesus' Strong Name ... Barbara and John Hamel
