Peculiar Ways Jesus Heals
It Can Happen to You
by Pastor John Hamel
“And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a
blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him. And he took the
blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on
his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.
And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking. After that
he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was
restored, and saw every man clearly.” (Mark 8:22-25)
Some people refuse
to believe that Jesus still heals the sick today. They insist, “The
age of miracles has passed away with the 12 Apostles.” However, the
Bible teaches otherwise. The Bible says that Jesus will never change.
(Hebrews 13:8) The Bible teaches that all the Healing Gifts of the Spirit still
operate in the Earth today, but only when people believe. (Luke 1:37;
1Corinthians 12:8-11) Refusing to believe that Jesus still heals will
actually hinder His healing ability. (Mark 6:5,6) Unbelief grieves
God’s Spirit and drives Him away.
There are many ways
Jesus brought healing to people in Bible days. Some were “peculiar”
to say the least. In the above Bible narrative, Jesus actually spit
on a blind man’s eyes, causing him to see again. Now that’s peculiar!
One day while
living in the desert I received a phone call. The voice on the other
end was a friend pleading for help. His car engine had overheated, he
explained. While leaning over the engine, shirtless because of the
desert heat, the radiator had exploded, severely burning him. I
jumped on my motorcycle and raced across town to help him in any way
possible. He met me at the door when I arrived. His face, neck,
chest, stomach and arms were badly burned.
Before I could say
a word, he grabbed my hands, placing them on his burned face while saying,
“In the Name of Jesus.” As he did this, the heat from his burns left
his face, going right into my hands. He repeated the process of
placing my hands on his neck, chest, stomach and arms, all the while
continuing to say, “In the Name of Jesus.” As he moved my hands over
the burned areas, the heat from the burns was supernaturally pulled from
his body into my hands.
Finally, he
collapsed onto his sofa exhausted. He exclaimed, “Whew!
Everywhere your hands came into contact with me,
the heat from the burns would leave me and go right into you. The
pain is completely gone.” The next day I went to check on him, expecting
him to be sorely blistered from his waist to his forehead. He was
only “slightly pink” where he had been so severely burned. I asked if
he was in pain. He reminded me, “No, I told you that it all went into
your hands yesterday. I have no pain at all!” A peculiar
healing miracle indeed!
Another place in
the Bible, Jesus encountered a deaf man, unable to speak properly.
Jesus put His fingers in the man’s ears, spit once and touched the man’s
tongue. The man began to both hear and speak normally. (Mark
7:32-35)
Sometimes healing
can come in the most peculiar way. Other times it can come through the simple Prayer of Faith. Either
way, God promises healing to all who believe.
Do you have need of
healing in your body? It doesn’t matter how
severe your case may appear to be. Nothing’s too difficult
for the God Who created you. Simply tell Jesus, “You’re my choice for
Savior and Healer.” (Romans 10:13) Then you’ll
qualify for supernatural healing.
The “lesser”
miracle of healing is contained in the “greater” miracle of salvation.
(Galatians 3:13,14,29)
