A Man Made a Mess
of Humanity. The God-Man Cleaned It Up.
by Pastor John Hamel
“And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel
was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin…and
the virgin's name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her… And
when she saw him, she was troubled...And the angel said unto her, Fear not,
Mary: for thou hast found favor with God. …behold, thou shalt
conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt
call his name Jesus.” (Luke 1:26-31)
Jesus had to be
born of a virgin for the following reason.
All babies get their blood from their father. This means that all
babies get their blood from Adam, blood tainted by sin. (Genesis 3)
Jesus came to Earth to be our “perfect” substitute, dying in our place,
paying the death penalty for our sin. (Romans 6:23)
Had He gotten His
Blood from a human father, He would not have been an acceptable, “perfect”
This is why He was
born of a virgin. Creator God supernaturally planted a specially
created seed in a virgin girl’s womb. That way Jesus’ Blood would
come from that specially created seed.
Jesus’ Blood came from a
Perfect, Holy God, making Him the “perfect” sacrifice for our sin!
This made Jesus
fully God and fully man. He was not some half-God, half-human
freak! Jesus was the Perfect God-man, similar to Adam before he
sinned. This is why the Bible calls Jesus “The Last Adam”.
important that we understand Jesus’ humanity because only a real, live
perfect human being could pay for the sin of humanity.
It was a man who
got the entire race in trouble with Holy God. So, it had to be a man
who would bail us out.
Therefore, God and Jesus devised a plan where
they could do it for us. Jesus would become one of us and “take the heat” putting the problem of sin behind us.
Jesus was born as
all human babies are born -- only of a virgin. The umbilical cord was
cut. He cried as Joseph handed Him to Mary.
As a boy, Jesus
apprenticed as a carpenter, mastering the skill, smashing fingers and
pulling out splinters from His hands in the process. (Luke 2:6,7)
Jesus was as
emotional as any human being. He became angry when religious leaders
didn’t want to help suffering people. (Mark 3:1-6)
experienced tremendous compassion for
all who came to Him for help. (Matthew 9:36)
Jesus experienced hunger
just like we do when our bodies burn up energy and need to be refueled.
He also thirsted as any human who’s deprived of liquids
for any period of time. (John 19:28)
Jesus’ body also required rest
daily. When He was exhausted He could pretty much sleep through
anything. (Mark 4:37-39)
Jesus felt very
deep love for His family and friends. When His close friend Lazarus
died, He burst into tears. (John 11:35) He grieved deeply over the
fact that the majority of His chosen Jewish people rejected His claims to
Deity. (Luke 13:34)
Jesus was even
tempted by sin just like you and me. Only He never gave in to sin as
we have. That’s why we need Him. (Hebrews 4:15)
never yielded to sin when tempted, He qualified to become our perfect
substitute at Calvary’s Cross.
Someone had to pay
the price for Adam’s sin and the sin of all humanity. It had to be a
man, a perfect man.
A man, Adam, made a mess out of humanity and only
the Perfect Man, Jesus, was equipped to clean it up!
Again, this is
why the Bible calls Jesus the “last” or the “second” Adam. (1
“It was a perfect
sacrifice by a perfect person to perfect some very imperfect people.”
(Hebrews Message Bible)
Do you believe
this? Say, “Jesus, You’re my choice. I
believe You came in the flesh to take the heat for me.I not only appreciate it but I accept
it.” (Romans 10:13)
