Receive Your Financial Miracle, Pt. 1
Understanding Why Money Comes
by Pastor John Hamel

“For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.” (2Corinthians 8:9)

What does the Bible mean when it says Jesus “became poor that we…might become rich”? It’s simple. Poverty is a curse for living in sin. The Bible says that Jesus bore our sin on Calvary’s Cross. (2Corinthians 5:21) Since He bore our sin, He also bore the penalties of our sin. One of those penalties is poverty. (Deuteronomy 28:17; Galatians 3:13,14) Jesus “became poor” at the time He “became sin.”

This simply means that you don’t have to suffer in poverty if you have made Jesus your Lord. That’s simple, too. Just say, “Jesus, You’re my choice” and you’re in the family and qualify for all family benefits. (Romans 10:13; John 1:12; Psalm 103:1-5)

Those who say, “Jesus lived a life of poverty and we should, too,” don’t understand that Jesus “became poor” at the Cross, in our place.  He did not live in poverty during His Earth visit.

This is proven by the fact that He had a Treasurer. His name was Judas and he was the accountant for Jesus’ 12-man entourage and their families. Once you have these things straight in your thinking, you’re on your way to Jesus’ financial assistance.

Now, there are three primary reasons why God grants financial miracles to people. These three primary reasons are actually the same three primary reasons for which Jesus came.

Understanding why Jesus came gives instant insight into why financial miracles occur.

FIRST and foremost, Jesus came to save lost men and women from the throes of Hell. “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Luke 19:10) First and foremost, financial miracles occur when God is persuaded that we will use no less than ten percent or a “tithe” of His financial blessing to help Ministries who go out after lost souls. (Malachi 3:8-10; Leviticus 27:30; Hebrews 7:8)

SECOND, Jesus came to break Satan’s hold on the suffering people of the world. “…For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” (1John 3:8) When God is persuaded that we will invest in Ministries that set human beings free from the clutches of eternal damnation, sickness, disease, poverty, suffering and fear, He will initiate financial miracles on our behalf. You can bank on it, literally!

The THIRD reason Jesus came was that His people would enjoy abundance of life. “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)  It is the will of God for all of His children to enjoy prosperity. (Psalm 35:27)

However, we must understand what I call “Biblical Prosperity in Perspective.” We must have “all of our ducks in a row,” so to speak. We must understand that money, like Jesus, comes to seek and save the lost, first and foremost. Money, like Jesus, comes to finance the breaking of Satan’s hold on precious human beings. Last, but not least, money, like Jesus, comes so that God’s family would have all needs abundantly met -- with enough left over to give the way the Bible instructs and then some!

Ask God to forgive you if you’ve missed it in these three areas. He’ll do it. (1John 1:9)  Then start paying your tithes to your Pastor.  If you don’t have a Pastor, ask God to lead you to one.  It’s not possible for your Pastor to do the job God gave him to do when his sheep are disobeying the Bible.  The Bible requires that all Believers in Jesus Christ pay their tithes to the local Church / storehouse.  Possibly you didn’t know that the word “tithe” means “one-tenth.”  Now you do. God expects you to give one-tenth of all the increase He gives you back into your local Church for the purpose of preaching the Gospel.  If you haven’t been doing this, the Bible calls you a “God robber.”  That’s not good! In part two of this lesson we’ll talk about that.

”Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” (Malachi 3:8-10)

So, it’s obvious that anyone who isn’t paying their tithes is under a curse – a financial curse.  However, God is a good God and He’s made the way for you to reverse that curse.  START PAYING YOUR TITHES AND BREAK THE CURSE.  It’s just that simple. God’s not mad. He’s trying to help you. He wants to bless you financially but He’s the Creator and He gets to make the rules.  He says it’s absolutely essential that those who want to be blessed financially must pay their tithes and offerings.

Now, we also see that the tithe must be paid to the storehouse.  That would be your local Church because that’s where the Word of God is stored.  That’s where you go to learn the Word of God.  However, you’ll notice in the above verses that although we are required to pay offerings above the tithe, God does not tell us where to give our offerings or how much they are to be.  Almighty God leaves it up to His children to decide the size of their offering and where it will go.

Before going any further with this, I want to say something about the difference between the tithe and the offering.  The tithe is really not giving TO God.  The tithe is actually giving BACK to God that which is already His.  Not only is it His but it is holy. (Leviticus 27:30)  When we give the tithe back to God, we are not planting a seed towards a financial harvest.  We are simply being obedient.  Paying tithes does not determine the size of our financial harvest.  Paying tithes simply shows God that we are obedient and that we can be trusted with all that He gives to us.

On the other hand, the offering determines the rate of our financial return.  The offering is what we are really giving.  You see, God says that the tithe belongs to Him.  But He says the remaining ninety percent belongs to us.  Therefore, we can really only give TO God out of that which is ours – the remaining ninety percent.  So keep in mind that the tithe simply determines our obedience.  However, the offering determines our rate of return on our giving.  The more we give, the more we receive.

It’s just like in farming.  Farmers who plant a small amount of seed receive a small harvest on that seed.  Farmers who plant a large amount of seed receive a large harvest on that seed.  It’s up to the farmer to determine the size of his own harvest.  This is what Jesus was talking about when He said, “Give and it shall be given unto you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over … WITH THE SAME MEASURE YOU GIVE shall men give unto your bosom.” (Luke 6:38)

It’s very clear that it’s up to the individual what size their financial miracle will be.  Jesus said with the same measure that we give He will cause others to give to us supernaturally.  People who give with a thimble get it back with a spoon.  People who give with a spoon get it back with a bucket.  People who give with a bucket get it back with a wheelbarrow.  People who give with a wheelbarrow get it back with a truckload.  People who give with a truckload get it back with a shipload.  On and on it goes.

Now, you just might have to start off small but that’s okay.  Actually God’s not looking at how much you give, He’s looking at how much you hold back.  It’s very possible to reap a large harvest off a small seed if all you have is a small seed.  For example, a person who has a thousand dollars left after their tithe only gives a one-dollar offering isn’t going to get much of a harvest because they’re holding back and God looks at the percentage given.  Yet another person who only has ten dollars left after their tithe and gives five or six dollars for an offering is planting towards a giant harvest because God’s looking at the percentage given.  A dollar out of a thousand is a very small percentage.  Five or six dollars given out of ten dollars is a very large percentage.  I’m confident you’re getting the point here.

Let’s move on to a Bible illustration of what I’m saying.  There is a woman in the Bible who gave the last little cake she had to the Prophet Elijah and reaped a very large harvest on a very small seed because it was everything she had and she refused to hold it back.

“And the word of the LORD came unto him [Elijah], saying, 9Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee. 10So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.  11And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand. 12And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die. 13And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. 14For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth. 15And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days. 16And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.” (1Kings 17:8-16)

Some people have read this narrative and said, “What an example of a typical greedy Preacher just trying to get his own needs met.”  They completely missed the point of what’s going on here and left themselves in position to where God could not help them in their time of need.  However, others read this narrative and see a powerful man of God who knew how to access the power of God on behalf of another.  What happened to you when you read this narrative?  Did it cause you to fear that by teaching this I’m trying to empty your pockets?  Or did it cause you to have faith that by teaching this I’m trying to get you in position to where God can fill your empty pockets?  The ball is in your court.  It’s all up to you.

The Bible says in the New Testament that everything in the Old Testament was written to help you.  Let’s look at a verse quickly to prove that to you.

“Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.” (1Corinthians 10:11)

The example of Elijah and the widow at Zarephath was included in the Bible to help you for such a time as this.  You are reading this article because you need a financial miracle.  Because this widow woman was not afraid to give the very best of what little she had, she received a material and a financial miracle.  Her barrel of meal was supernaturally filled to the top when it was empty.  Her cruse of oil was supernaturally filled to the top when it had been drained.  This is because she listened to the voice of faith and not the voice of fear when the Prophet said, “Put me first.”

The Prophet wasn’t being greedy.  The Prophet knew that when we put others first God will put us first.  The Prophet knew what we make happen for others God Himself will make happen for us.  The Prophet knew the only way to reap an uncommon harvest was to plant an uncommon seed.  The Prophet knew God was not moved by this widow’s need, otherwise, He would have moved to meet her need before Elijah even got there.  The Prophet knew God was only going to be moved by this widow’s faith, so he took a bold step towards getting her into faith at the risk of his own reputation.

God wants to bless you beyond your wildest dreams today.  He wants to give you the financial miracle you are seeking but it’s going to require your actions of faith.  It’s going to require you stepping out like the little widow woman and giving the very best of what little you have remaining.  You know where your seed is.  Get it and plant it.  If you keep your seed that’s the only harvest you’re ever going to see on it.  However, if you plant your seed into a Ministry that’s preaching the supernatural Gospel of Jesus Christ you will reap a bountiful harvest on it.  Did you get that?  If you keep your seed that seed is the only harvest you’ll ever see.  But if you plant that seed it will produce a mega harvest for you.

So there you have it.  The word of the Lord concerning your present financial need.  God leaves it up to you now just like He left it up to the little widow. Will you listen to the voice of fear and continue to live under a financial curse?  Or will you do what the little widow did and get what she got?  The decision is all yours.

Should you decide to follow the example of the faith-filled widow, planting your best seed into John Hamel Ministries, you need to know something.  You need to know that the Holy Spirit told me there is an anointing on my life and Ministry for supernatural multiplication to come to those who give into the work of this supernatural Ministry.  To read that prophecy click here.  After reading the prophecy and planting your seed, you’ll need to tell the Lord that you believe what He told me in that prophecy.  Once you do that begin to thank Him for your miracle financial harvest.  Continue to thank Him for your harvest until you see its manifestation.  It takes faith to do that and without faith it’s impossible to please Him. (Hebrews 11:6)

Keep in mind the larger the harvest you ask for and plant towards, the longer it can take before you see the harvest come in.  This is true in the natural and it’s also true in the spirit realm.  In the natural the gestation period for a mouse is about three weeks.  The gestation period for an elephant is about two years.  Are you believing for a mouse-sized harvest or an elephant-sized harvest?  The larger the harvest the longer the wait.  This is not to say that God will not meet your daily needs as you wait out your elephant-sized harvest.  It’s just to keep you from thinking your harvest isn’t coming in when it seems to be taking a long time because you asked for a big one.

It’s also important to keep in mind that unlike when you pray about anything else, praying for financial blessing almost always involves God using other people.  Sometimes people can drag their feet.  But you can pray for whoever it is the Lord is using and tell Satan to stop harassing them and slowing them down.  Just tell him, “Satan, stop hindering whoever it is the Holy Spirit is speaking to about blessing me, in Jesus’ Strong Name.  Get your hands off my finances.”  He’ll back off.  Other times God can be speaking to someone whom He has raised up in what the Bible calls the ministry of “giving.”  It is not at all uncommon for someone who is called to the Ministry of Giving to take the time to be sure they are hearing from the Holy Spirit before making their move.  These are usually highly responsible people who do not act hastily with God’s money.

You also have the authority as a Born-Again Believer to commission the Angels of God by decreeing, “Angels, go and cause my financial harvest to come in.  The Bible says in Psalm 37:25 that it’s God’s pleasure to prosper me. The Bible also says in Psalm 103:20 that the Angels of God do His good pleasure. That means He uses you to cause the finances to come – so go and do it now, in Jesus’ Name.”  It’s important that you never tell the Angels to bring the money to you. They can’t do that.  They’re not a delivery service.  However, they will cause the money to come through the God-ordained channels.

A closing thought.  Grace comes by praying. (Colossians 1:9)  Faith comes by hearing. (Romans 10:17)  Financial and material abundance come by planting. (Luke 6:38)  Christians all around the world are praying for financial and material provision to come and aren’t getting any answers.  They refuse to pay tithes and plant offerings believing the lie that financial and material provision comes through praying.  Financial and material provision does not come through praying alone.  Financial and material provision comes by planting seed towards a harvest.  If financial and material provision came by praying alone that would mean that Bill Gates, Malcolm Forbes and other billionaires are the world’s biggest intercessors and they are not.

John D. Rockefeller paid tithes and offerings.  The founder of the Holiday Inn paid tithes and offerings.  The founder of Quaker Oats paid tithes and offerings.  The founder of Hyde’s Mentholatum paid tithes and offerings.  The founder of Welch’s grape juice paid tithes and offerings.  R.G. LeTourneau, the man whom God gave the ideas for most of the earth-moving, road-building equipment that is in the Earth today, paid tithes and offerings.  You can read his book called “Mover of Men and Mountains” where you will discover this fascinating fact.  He started out paying ten percent tithes and worked his way up to where he was giving God ninety percent of all of his income.  Yet still when he died, he had over $90 million in the bank and over 200 patents for road-building equipment in his name. He also left behind a college and a factory to where still today they are producing the largest earth-moving equipment in the world.

You don’t read these things in the history books because Satan is the god of this world and he doesn’t want you to know them. (2Corinthians 10:10)  He knows if you get a hold of these truths and start making application of them, you could become another R.G. LeTourneau and Satan doesn’t want that.  By the way, R.G. LeTourneau was also the President of the Gideons, the organization that places Bibles at no cost in motel rooms all around the world.  Get a vision for God like R.G. LeTourneau had a vision for God and God will get a vision for you like He had a vision for R.G. LeTourneau.  God has not decided your future; He is waiting for you to do it.  Yes, He knows what your future will be but He’s left it up to you as to whether you will plant towards it or not.  If God had already decided your future, why would He bother telling you to plant towards it?  Why would He give you any say in it?

You might be thinking, “Pastor John, I can’t wait three weeks, two years or a lifetime for my financial miracle.  I need help now.”  Then plant your seed now and believe God now.  Don’t forget, He’s God.  He can override the Laws of Nature.  He can cause the Laws of the Spirit to speed up and work to your advantage immediately.  He can cause a supernatural compounding of events and show you His mercy.  He can do anything He wants.  He’s God.  He knows what you need and He knows what it will take to get it to you.  You don’t need to know how He can do it, either.  All you need to know is that He will do it and He will do it legally, morally and Scripturally.  You do a little thing and plant the best seed you have.  God will do a big thing and give you the best harvest He’s got for where you are and where you are going.   He can cause it to happen today or even tomorrow if that’s what you need.  Just keep pressing into Him.  Keep seeking the Giver and not the gifts.  He’s going to give you what you need but He’s going to develop greater spiritual maturity in you in the process.

Always remember the three reasons why Jesus came.  They’re the same reasons money comes. It will serve you well to get all three established in your thinking.

Always remember that God is not simply moved by your need.  He is moved by your faith and it takes faith to plant a seed during a crisis.  If God was moved by your need alone, He would have met that need by now.  When Jesus hung on the Cross there were two criminals hanging to either side of Him.  They both needed Jesus’ help desperately.  One rejected Jesus.  The other accepted Jesus by faith.  Jesus only went with the one who had faith.  This speaks volumes about the importance of faith over neediness when it comes to receiving as proficiently from God as He desires for you.

Grab hold of every spiritual principle you’ve learned here today.  Apply them to your life now and receive your financial miracles. A life-long parade of them!
