The Sheep & the Goats

The Second Coming of Jesus

by Pastor John Hamel

“When the Son of Man shall come in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then shall He sit upon the throne of His glory: And before Him shall be gathered all nations: and He shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.”  (Matthew 25:31,32)

These are Jesus’ words.  He is talking about His “Second Coming.”

There is coming a day when Jesus Christ will return as promised and separate all the unbelievers from the Believers.

The Believers will be directed immediately to the Judgment Seat of Christ, the Judgment of Eternal Reward.

The unbelievers will be directed immediately to the Great White Throne Judgment, the Judgment of Eternal Punishment.

Jesus referred to this as separating “the sheep from the goats.”  My wife and I have both done some rather detailed study of raising sheep and shepherding.  We have come to clearly understand why Jesus refers to unbelievers as “goats” and Believers as “sheep.”

Goats can be quite untrustworthy, rebellious, independent and unruly, even destructive.

This is precisely why Jesus referred to those who reject His claims of Deity and His teachings as “goats.”  It takes a rebellious, self-willed and unruly individual to reject not only Jesus’ claims to Deity but the outstanding Miracles He performs as confirmation of His Deity.  Jesus still performs Miracles today. (Hebrews 13:8)

Not only have I seen miracles, I am a miracle.

Over two decades ago I was delivered from drug addiction when I prayed in Jesus’ Name.  After I prayed, I fell unconscious in my living room for NEARLY THREE FULL DAYS.  I did not dream, change positions, eat or drink during that period of time.  All bodily functions shut down supernaturally!

When I regained consciousness, I was free!

Later in life, the Lord gave me a friendship with a man, Ronald Coyne, who was also a miracle.  He could see through an empty eye socket.  His eyeball had been surgically removed as a result of an accident over 30 years earlier.  Soon after this unfortunate event, a woman Evangelist prayed for him and he actually began to see through that empty eye socket.

This man traveled all over the world demonstrating this miracle and telling people about Jesus’ Miracle power.  You may have seen him on one of his many, many appearances on Phil Donahue, Sally Jesse Raphael, Geraldo Rivera, Oprah Winfrey and other popular television programs.  His name is Ronald Coyne.  Go on the Internet and search for "The Plastic Eyeball Miracle."  Read it for yourself.

Keep in mind this is not someone I heard about or saw on television.  This is someone the Lord gave me a friendship with.  He even demonstrated this miracle in my Church a couple of times.  He popped that plastic eyeball out and placed it right on my pulpit.  I covered his existing eye with a handkerchief folded eight times, using half a roll of adhesive tape to hold it in place.

He then proceeded to read through that empty eye socket anything that anyone brought to him.  People were astounded.  Many burst into tears asking God to forgive them for their sins.

Ronald once told me on the telephone that he could see through that empty eye socket 24 and 7, with or without the plastic eyeball in place.

So, you just can’t tell me that Jesus doesn’t perform miracles any longer.  Only a rebellious, untrustworthy, self-willed and unruly individual would dare to tell God what He can and cannot do anymore.

Unlike goats, sheep are submissive, faithful, predictable, dependant, easy to entreat and for the most part, orderly and manageable.

This is why Jesus refers to people who believe in His claims to Deity, who adhere to His teachings and who accept His Lordship as “sheep.”

In order to be a follower of Jesus, one must recognize their dependence upon the Great Shepherd’s provision and protection. (Psalm 23:1-6)  Followers must be submissive to His will, easy to teach, orderly and manageable.  This is why they are called “sheep.”

Where will you stand when Jesus returns?

The first time He came it was as man’s Savior. (John 3:16)

The second time He comes it will be as man’s Judge. (John 5:22-30)

Jesus will be coming again soon, so very soon.  Will you be placed with the sheep or with the goats when He returns?

The goats will go to His left hand.

“Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.” (Matthew 5:41)

The sheep will go to His right hand.

“Then shall the King say unto them on His right hand, Come, ye blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” (Matthew 5:34)

It’s our prayer that you will be placed to His right hand as a result of reading this message and having prayed, “Jesus, You’re my choice.  I want to be ready when You come again.  I will depend upon You.  I will submit to You.  Teach me and I will obey You.” (Romans 10:13)
