Think You're Under a Curse?
Well, Let’s Just Fix That Right Now!

by Pastor John Hamel

“And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life.” (Genesis 3:17)

Think you might be under a curse for some reason?

Well, you just might be.  However, you cannot come up with something so big that God cannot handle it for you.  We will talk about curses for a moment and see just a few examples of how they do indeed come upon individuals.  But first let me talk to you about the two dynamic dimensions.

There are only two dynamic dimensions in which a human being can live.  One is the dimension of blessing.  The other is the dimension of curses.

Blessings come through obedience to God.  Curses come through disobedience to God.  No need for a Theological Degree to figure that one out.

In Deuteronomy 28:1-14 you can read about the Blessings.  In verses 15-68 you can read about the Curses.

Being under a curse is no fun.  It’s not intended to be.  It’s intended to make you want to repent for the things you did to bring it on yourself.

Once you repent, the blessings can flow again.  This is God’s will for you.  He’s the Blesser.  Satan is the curser.  No ifs, ands or buts about it. (John 10:10)

Curses first came into the Earth when Adam and Eve sinned.  (Genesis 3:14-19)

The ground was cursed with weeds and low productivity (vs.17).  Adam was cursed with hard labor and eventual death (vs.19).  Eve was cursed with pain in childbearing (vs.16).  Their relationship was cursed with marital strife (vs.16).

The entire race has come under the Genesis Curse because we all come from Adam and Eve. (Romans 5:17)

The Genesis Curse affected even Satan.  God promised him a whipping at Calvary and he got it big time (vs.14).

Now there’s a whole lot we can do about much of the Genesis Curse because of Jesus’ success at Calvary.

Every Curse Can Be Traced Back to a Cause

“As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.” (Proverbs 26:2)

There are certain aspects of the Genesis Curse that will not be completely removed until Jesus returns.  However, much of it can be turned back in the life of the Believer who knows their authority in Christ.

There are many ways people bring unnecessary curses upon themselves today, in ignorance of the Laws of the Spirit.

Parents speak terrible things over their children and they come to pass.  Words are containers and carry life or death.

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue …” (Proverbs 18:21)

Children who refuse to honor their parents are under a curse.

“Honor thy father and mother… That it may be well with thee, and thou may live long...” (Ephesians 6:2,3)  The reverse application of these verses is apparent.

Parents can also bring curses upon their entire household by corrupt business dealings.  A parent’s sins can indeed stalk their children and children’s children for generations.

“Whoso rewards evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.” (Proverbs 17:13)

Taking advantage of employees, working them like animals and paying them “peanuts” always brings a curse.

“Cursed be he that perverts the judgment of the stranger, fatherless, and widow...” (Deuteronomy 27:19)

Worshipping false gods is a real fast way to bring on a curse! (Exodus 20:3-5)

Anti-Semitism is a sure way to find one’s self under the most horrible of curses.  The Jews are God’s Chosen people and listening to Satan concerning them will get you in a deep, deep rut.

“Now the Lord had said unto Abram … I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:  And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curses thee...” (Genesis 12:1-3; Isaiah 41)

There are many, many reasons for curses coming upon individuals.  The Lord can and will show you what is cursing you if you will ask expectantly. (James 1:5-8)

The primary reason for all curses is sin!

However, Christ has redeemed us from the Curse of the Law of Sin and Death. (Romans 8:2)

The power of any and every curse can be broken by the authority of Jesus’ Name and by the Power of His Blood. (Philippians 2:9-11)

Simply say, “Jesus, You’re my choice as Curse Breaker.  I’m all through with sin.” (Romans 10:13)

Things will stop happening TO you and start happening FOR you now.
