Why God Became Man

Heaven’s Solitary Missionary

by Pastor John Hamel

“And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God …thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus …and of his kingdom there shall be no end.” (Luke 1:30-33)

It is not completely possible to understand HOW the Just and Merciful God of the Old Testament became fully human.  However, it is possible to understand WHY He did so.  Jesus Christ, the Son of God became a full-fledged, authentic human being for many reasons of which we will see just some.

Jesus came to show the human race what His Father is like.  The Bible says that Jesus came forth from God so we could both hear of and experience God’s nature and God’s will. (John 1:18)

Jesus said, “If you’ve seen Me in action, you know what the Father’s like.  He’s good!” (John 14:9)

Look at Jesus’ Ministry.  He healed the sick.  He cast out tormenting spirits.  He helped people learn how to prosper

The Bible says, “… He went about doing GOOD and healing … for God was with Him.” (Acts 10:38)  Jesus did only “good” because God is only good. (John 10:10)

Jesus came to understand the human race.  It wasn’t enough that we come to understand God through Jesus.  Jesus wanted to understand us as well.

The Bible says, “It behooved Him to be made like unto His brethren …a merciful and favorable High Priest…” (Hebrews 2:17)  How much easier it is for Jesus to come to our aid having gone through similar trials!

How comforting to know that Jesus became fully man, experiencing all that we experience.  This way He is able to fully provide the comfort we need when we are suffering. (2Corinthians 1:3-5)

Jesus came to take away the sins of the world. (1John 3:5)  It doesn’t matter whether you are a prostitute, a liar, a thief or any of the many other things Satan pressures people to do.  Jesus came to bear the penalty for all sin.  From the outhouse to the White House, from the dog house to the penthouse, He came to forgive sin.

Jesus came to undo and loosen Satan’s pressure from human lives. (1John 3:8)  If you’re bound by anything in any way, He came to set you free and give you new desires.  He’s your Liberator, Deliverer. (John 10:10)

Jesus came to find His lost sheep that are scattered across the planet Earth. (Luke 19:10)

He’s not mad at you if you’ve been banging around in life’s sinful storms.  He’s come on a love mission to rescue you. (Romans 6:23)

Jesus is Heaven’s solitary Missionary.

Jesus came to show us how to live in a way that’s pleasing to God. (1Peter 2:21)

Jesus set the example for truthful, loving living. When we follow His example things stop happening TO us and start happening FOR us. (Luke 6:38)

Jesus came to conquer death, Hell and the grave.  He was born, lived, died, resurrected and conquered death as a man.  This way all people who accept His death, burial and resurrection never need to fear their own death again

“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” (Hebrews 2:14,15)

Just say, “Jesus, You’re my choice.  I now understand why You became a man.  I won’t be afraid anymore.  Show me the one primary thing You want me to do. I’ll do it with all my heart for the rest of my life.” (Romans 10:13)
